Mahyco is one of India's largest private sector seed companies specializing in research-driven development of high-yielding hybrid seeds as well as genetically engineered crops. It pioneered the introduction of transgenic Bollgard® cotton (Bt cotton) to India through its joint venture with Monsanto. The company's portfolio includes over a hundred products across more than thirty crop species—cereals, oilseeds, fiber crops like cotton, vegetables—and it has developed insect-resistant varieties such as Bt brinjal and Bt okra that have completed regulatory trials but await commercialization approval.
