MAIA Biotechnology develops first-in-class drugs targeting telomerase and telomeres in cancer. Its lead candidate, ateganosine (THIO), has shown promise as a dual-mechanism agent with both direct cytotoxicity to telomerase-positive tumor cells and immunogenic effects. The main clinical program, THIO sequenced with cemiplimab for advanced NSCLC patients resistant to checkpoint inhibitors, continues in Phase II trials. In addition, the FDA granted Rare Pediatric Disease Designation for THIO in pediatric-type diffuse high-grade gliomas in early 2025. The company expects to expand its Phase II trial and initiate a Phase III trial later in the year.
