Mamea Imaging

Mamea Imaging was a Swedish medical technology company that pioneered the development of photon-counting X-ray detectors for digital mammography. Founded as a spin-off from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, the company focused on creating imaging systems that provide high-resolution diagnostic images while minimizing radiation exposure to patients. Its core technology was commercialized through the Sectra MicroDose Mammography system following Mamea's acquisition by Sectra in 2004. In 2011, Sectra sold its mammography business to Philips, which continues to utilize Mamea's foundational photon-counting technology in its clinical breast screening portfolio.
