Marian Community Hospital

Marian Community Hospital was a 104-bed acute care facility located in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, that served the Lackawanna County region for several decades. Originally founded as St. Joseph's Hospital and sponsored by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the institution provided a wide range of medical services including emergency care, surgical procedures, and diagnostic imaging. The hospital was a member of the Maxis Health System and was affiliated with Catholic Health East. Following years of declining patient volumes and significant financial challenges, the hospital officially ceased all operations and closed its doors in February 2012. The closure marked the end of over 80 years of Catholic healthcare presence in the Carbondale community.
