Maryland Technology Development Center

The Maryland Technology Development Center (MTDC), now known as the Shady Grove Innovation Center (SGIC), is a premier biotechnology and information technology incubator located in Rockville, Maryland. Established in 1999 as a joint venture between Montgomery County and the State of Maryland, the 55,000-square-foot facility provides critical infrastructure, including specialized wet labs and office space, for early-stage life science companies. The center offers business development services, mentoring, and access to the regional biotech ecosystem to help startups transition from research to commercialization. It has served as a launchpad for numerous successful graduates, such as Avalon Pharmaceuticals and GeneDX, and remains a cornerstone of the Shady Grove Life Sciences Center.
