Massachusetts Memorial Hospital was a prominent teaching hospital located in Boston, Massachusetts, and the primary clinical affiliate of the Boston University School of Medicine. Originally founded in 1855 as the Massachusetts Homeopathic Hospital, it was renamed in 1929 and became a leader in academic medicine and clinical research. In 1965, the facility was renamed University Hospital to reflect its integral role in medical education. The institution eventually merged with Boston City Hospital in 1996 to form the Boston Medical Center (BMC). Today, the legacy of Massachusetts Memorial Hospital persists through BMC's status as a major research center and the largest safety-net hospital in New England.
