Master Herbs was a California-based distributor specializing in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and herbal supplements. The company primarily marketed products such as herbal liquids and teas to practitioners and retail consumers within the holistic health sector. It became widely known in 2016 following a major FDA recall of its Licorice Coughing Liquid, which was found to contain undeclared morphine. This regulatory action was classified as a Class I recall due to the potential for life-threatening respiratory depression in consumers. Following the recall and subsequent regulatory scrutiny, the company's operations were significantly curtailed, and it officially dissolved as a business entity in 2017.
