Company intelligence / Profile preview
Masterlek was a prominent Russian pharmaceutical company that specialized in the development, manufacturing, and marketing of antiviral and immunomodulating drugs. The company is most notable for its flagship product, Arbidol (umifenovir), a small molecule viral fusion inhibitor that became a standard treatment for influenza and other respiratory infections in Russia and China. Masterlek's portfolio also featured Amixin (tilorone), an orally active interferon inducer used for viral hepatitis and influenza prophylaxis. In 2006, the company was acquired by Pharmstandard, Russia's leading domestic drug manufacturer, for approximately $146 million. This acquisition significantly bolstered Pharmstandard's position in the over-the-counter market and integrated Masterlek's high-growth brands into its national distribution network.
