Maumee Chemical Company was a specialty chemical manufacturer based in Ohio, primarily known for its production of saccharin and organic intermediates. Founded in 1946, the company developed proprietary processes for synthesizing isatoic anhydride and other complex chemicals used in the food and pharmaceutical industries. It operated significant manufacturing facilities in Toledo and Cincinnati, becoming a key supplier for the North American market. In 1970, the company was acquired by Sherwin-Williams, which integrated Maumee's operations into its specialty chemicals division. The company is historically significant for its innovations in the commercial synthesis of artificial sweeteners.
