Company intelligence / Profile preview
Max Mobility is a U.S. medical device company focused on assistive mobility technology for manual wheelchair users. Its flagship product, SmartDrive, is a rear-mounted power-assist device that attaches to manual wheelchairs to reduce pushing effort and help users travel longer distances, navigate slopes, and lessen repetitive upper-extremity strain. The company was founded in 2005 by Mark Richter and commercialized SmartDrive with support from SBIR funding and in-house manufacturing. Max Mobility was acquired by Permobil in 2017 and now operates as a Permobil subsidiary, with the Max Mobility name remaining associated with SmartDrive in FDA and recall communications.
