Company intelligence / Profile preview
Mayrand was a specialty pharmaceutical company based in Greensboro, North Carolina, that focused on niche therapeutic areas including prenatal health and respiratory medicine. The company was best known for its Vitafol brand of prenatal vitamins and a variety of cough, cold, and allergy medications. In 1995, Mayrand was acquired by Fisons plc for $65 million as part of Fisons' strategy to strengthen its U.S. primary care sales force and product portfolio. Following the acquisition, Mayrand's products were integrated into Fisons, which was itself acquired by Rhone-Poulenc Rorer shortly thereafter. The company's legacy continues through its brands, many of which were later divested to other specialty pharmaceutical firms.
