McNeil Laboratories is a historic pharmaceutical company best known for the development and global success of Tylenol (acetaminophen). Founded in 1879 by Robert McNeil, the company transitioned from a local pharmacy to a major drug manufacturer before its acquisition by Johnson & Johnson in 1959. Throughout its history, McNeil has been responsible for introducing several landmark medications, including the antipsychotic Haldol (haloperidol) and the over-the-counter analgesic Motrin (ibuprofen). Following the 2023 corporate restructuring of Johnson & Johnson, McNeil's operations and brands were transitioned into Kenvue, an independent consumer health company. The company continues to focus on high-volume consumer healthcare products across pain management, allergy, and digestive health sectors.
