Mechnikov Biomed, officially known as the Mechnikov Latin American Institute of Biotechnology, is a high-tech pharmaceutical company based in Managua, Nicaragua. Established as a joint venture between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Nicaragua, the company focuses on the production and distribution of immunobiological products for the Latin American and Caribbean markets. Its primary operations involve the fill-and-finish manufacturing of vaccines, most notably influenza vaccines and the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine. The facility is designed to meet international GMP standards, aiming to strengthen regional health security and vaccine self-sufficiency. Beyond manufacturing, Mechnikov serves as a hub for technology transfer and training in biotechnology within the Central American region.
