Medco Research was a pharmaceutical company primarily focused on the development and commercialization of cardiovascular drug products, with a specialized emphasis on adenosine-based therapies. The company is best known for developing Adenocard (adenosine injection) for the treatment of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia and Adenoscan (adenosine injection), which is used as a pharmacologic stress agent in myocardial perfusion imaging. Medco Research operated using a virtual-like model, outsourcing much of its manufacturing and clinical testing while maintaining a lean internal team focused on regulatory approval and marketing. The company was acquired by King Pharmaceuticals in 2000, which was subsequently acquired by Pfizer in 2011.
