Medem

Medem was a healthcare information technology company founded in 1999 as a joint venture by several of the nation's leading medical societies, including the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). The company developed and operated a secure online communications network designed to facilitate patient-physician interaction through a portal known as iMedem. Its primary services included secure messaging, online consultation tools, and a library of peer-reviewed medical information provided by its member societies. Medem aimed to provide a trusted, physician-led alternative to general health websites during the early growth of the consumer internet. The company eventually ceased operations as the market for electronic health records and patient portals evolved toward integrated clinical systems.
