Company intelligence / Profile preview
Medic Tools AG was a Swiss biotechnology company that specialized in the development of automated sample preparation and tissue dissociation technologies. Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, the company is best known for its flagship product, the gentleMACS Dissociator, which standardized the process of turning solid tissues into single-cell suspensions or homogenates. In June 2008, Medic Tools was acquired by Miltenyi Biotec, a global leader in cell research and therapy, to enhance its portfolio of sample preparation instruments and reagents. The gentleMACS technology remains a critical component of Miltenyi Biotec's workflow, widely utilized in immunology, oncology, and neuroscience research for applications such as flow cytometry and molecular analysis. Prior to the acquisition, the company also developed the Dispomix Drive, an automated tissue dissociator and cell homogenizer. The integration of Medic Tools' expertise allowed Miltenyi Biotec to offer a complete solution from sample preparation to cell separation and analysis.
