Overview
Medicago developed a proprietary plant-based platform to rapidly produce virus-like particle vaccines. Its COVID‑19 vaccine COVIFENZ® received Health Canada approval in February 2022 but was not commercialized due to market changes and the parent company's decision to wind down operations in early 2023.[6] The company had previously advanced seasonal influenza and other vaccine candidates into clinical development.[2][4][5]
No ongoing clinical programs as of May 2025; all R&D terminated with closure.
COVIFENZ® demonstrated immunogenicity and safety comparable or superior to existing vaccines in Phase 3 trials prior to regulatory approval.[6]
