Company intelligence / Profile preview
Medical Marketing International (MMI) was a biotechnology company specializing in the acquisition and development of early-stage biomedical technologies, primarily from academic institutions. The company's most significant achievement was the development and licensing of Campath (alemtuzumab), a pioneering monoclonal antibody used in the treatment of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia and later multiple sclerosis. MMI's business model focused on identifying high-potential therapeutic candidates and advancing them through initial clinical phases before partnering or being acquired. In 1997, the company was acquired by Ilex Oncology, which was subsequently integrated into Genzyme and later Sanofi. MMI's legacy remains tied to the successful commercialization of alemtuzumab for both oncology and autoimmune indications.
