The Medical Records Institute (MRI) was a prominent organization dedicated to the promotion and development of electronic health records (EHR) and health information systems. Founded in 1979, it became widely recognized for its annual "Toward an Electronic Patient Record" (TEPR) conference, which served as a major forum for healthcare IT innovation. The institute focused on establishing standards for medical record documentation, interoperability, and the transition from paper-based to digital systems. MRI provided research, education, and consulting services to healthcare providers and technology vendors globally.
