Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI) is an independent Australian medical research institute located in Westmead, New South Wales. Founded in 1958, it is a pioneer in the fields of gene therapy, cancer research, and embryology. CMRI is world-renowned for its work on the Alternative Lengthening of Telomeres (ALT) pathway in cancer and its development of novel Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) vectors for gene therapy. The institute also hosts ProCan, a world-first initiative using high-throughput mass spectrometry to profile the proteomes of thousands of cancer samples to improve diagnosis and treatment. CMRI is largely supported by the community through its iconic Jeans for Genes fundraising campaign.
