Medicine for People In Need

Medicine for People in Need (MedPiN) was a non-profit organization and a project of the Public Health Institute (PHI) based in Oakland, California. Founded in 1999, MedPiN focused on improving access to essential medications for uninsured and low-income populations by working with safety-net clinics and public hospitals. The organization gained prominence for managing a large-scale drug distribution system funded by litigation settlements, providing millions of prescriptions to those in need. MedPiN also provided technical assistance, promoted evidence-based prescribing, and helped clinics navigate federal drug discount programs like 340B. Despite its success in facilitating pharmaceutical access, the organization closed in late 2007 due to funding challenges.
