Company intelligence / Profile preview
Prior to its acquisition by Valeant in late 2012/early2013 for $2.6 billion, Medicis was a leading specialty pharmaceutical company focused on dermatology and aesthetic medicine. Its commercial portfolio included acne treatments and injectable dermal fillers such as Restylane and Perlane. The company also expanded into body contouring with the acquisition of LipoSonix technology.[1][2][3][5] Clinical results for its marketed products were well established; new pipeline programs were not widely publicized at the time of acquisition.
