MedImmune Vaccines

MedImmune Vaccines was the specialized vaccine division of MedImmune, a premier biotechnology company acquired by AstraZeneca in 2007 for approximately $15.6 billion. The division was primarily established through the 2002 acquisition of Aviron, which brought the innovative intranasal influenza vaccine FluMist into the company's portfolio. MedImmune Vaccines focused on live-attenuated virus technology and the development of biologics for infectious and respiratory diseases, most notably the RSV prophylactic Synagis. In 2019, AstraZeneca retired the MedImmune brand name to fully integrate its biologics and small molecule operations under a single corporate identity. Today, the legacy of MedImmune Vaccines persists within AstraZeneca's Vaccines & Immune Therapies unit, which continues to advance treatments for respiratory and viral pathogens globally.
