Meditech Research was an Australian biotechnology company specializing in the development of targeted oncology treatments through its proprietary HyACT (Hyaluronic Acid Chemotherapy Targeting) platform. The HyACT technology utilizes hyaluronic acid as a carrier to deliver potent chemotherapeutic drugs directly to cancer cells that overexpress the CD44 receptor, potentially improving drug uptake and reducing systemic toxicity. The company's lead program, HyCAMP (a formulation of irinotecan), demonstrated promising results in Phase 2 clinical trials for colorectal cancer. Meditech Research was acquired by Alchemia Limited in 2006, integrating its targeted delivery technology into Alchemia's broader drug development portfolio. The acquisition allowed for the further clinical development of the HyACT platform across multiple chemotherapeutic agents.
