Medshares

Medshares, Inc. was a prominent American healthcare services company that specialized in home health care and nursing services. During the late 1990s, it grew rapidly through aggressive acquisitions, including the purchase of dozens of home health agencies from Columbia/HCA and Integrated Health Services (IHS), briefly becoming one of the largest home health care chains in the United States. However, the company faced significant financial distress following changes to Medicare reimbursement policies under the Balanced Budget Act of 1997. Medshares filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1999 and its remaining assets were eventually integrated into other healthcare providers, such as Intrepid USA.
