Melbourne Ventures is the commercialization arm of the University of Melbourne, responsible for transforming academic research into commercial enterprises and licensed products. Operating within the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, the organization manages a vast intellectual property portfolio and has facilitated the creation of numerous high-profile biotech spin-outs, including Spinifex Pharmaceuticals and Fibrotech Therapeutics. It provides expertise in patenting, business development, and venture capital through partnerships like Uniseed and the Brandon BioCatalyst. While its functions have been integrated into the University's Research Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC) division, it remains a cornerstone of the Australian life sciences ecosystem.
