Company intelligence / Profile preview
Meldex International was a UK-based specialty pharmaceutical company that specialized in the development and licensing of innovative drug delivery technologies. Originally founded as BioProgress, the company gained prominence for its proprietary XGel technology, which provided a high-performance, non-gelatin alternative for pharmaceutical capsules. Its portfolio also included Soluleaves, a wafer-based delivery system designed for rapid oral dissolution, and Dexolve, a modified cyclodextrin used to improve drug solubility. The company's business model focused on partnering with global pharmaceutical firms to integrate these delivery platforms into existing and new drug formulations. In 2008, Meldex was acquired by the Swiss healthcare group Galenica, which integrated the technologies into its Vifor Pharma division.
