Company intelligence / Profile preview
Membio is a Canadian private biotechnology tools company that developed single-use benchtop bioreactor technology for cell and gene therapy manufacturing. The company originally positioned its platform around scalable production of whole cells, including lab-grown red blood cells, to support a safer and more sustainable blood supply. It also expanded the platform toward broader advanced-therapy manufacturing applications, including viral vector production. In May 2024, Membio announced that its bioreactor technology had been acquired by ABEC, indicating that the core technology now sits within a larger biomanufacturing supplier. Membio appears to have been an active venture-backed startup prior to that transaction, rather than a therapeutics developer with a traditional drug pipeline.
