Merck Generics was the global generic pharmaceutical business of Merck KGaA, headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany. At the time of its divestiture, it was the third-largest generic drug company in the world, operating in more than 90 countries with a workforce of approximately 5,000 employees. The company specialized in the development, manufacturing, and distribution of high-quality generic medicines across diverse therapeutic categories, including cardiovascular disease, central nervous system disorders, and metabolic conditions. In October 2007, the division was acquired by Mylan for 4.9 billion euros, a move that significantly expanded Mylan's global footprint and product offerings.
