Company intelligence / Profile preview
Mesophotonics was a UK-based nanotechnology company that specialized in the development of photonic crystal structures for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS). A spin-out from the University of Southampton, the company developed the Klarite line of SERS substrates, which significantly enhanced the sensitivity of Raman spectroscopy for detecting trace amounts of chemicals and biological molecules. Their technology was primarily applied in pharmaceutical analysis, forensic science, and medical diagnostics to provide high-precision molecular identification. The company's innovations addressed the historical lack of reproducibility in SERS measurements by using standardized nanofabrication techniques. Mesophotonics was acquired by D3 Technologies in 2008, and its technology was eventually integrated into Renishaw's spectroscopy product line.
