Metabolic Pharmaceuticals is an Australian biotechnology company that operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of PolyNovo Limited. The company was originally established to develop peptide-based therapies for metabolic diseases, with its lead candidate, AOD9604, being a C-terminal fragment of human growth hormone intended for the treatment of obesity. Although AOD9604 did not meet its primary endpoints in Phase 2b obesity trials, the company has continued to explore its potential in other indications such as osteoarthritis and bone healing. Metabolic Pharmaceuticals also developed ACV1, a conotoxin-derived peptide for neuropathic pain, which reached Phase 2 development. Currently, the company's activities are focused on managing these legacy intellectual property assets while its parent company, PolyNovo, focuses on its core dermal regeneration technology.
