MetaSENSORS

MetaSensors was a medical technology startup based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, focused on the development of non-invasive glucose monitoring systems. The company was co-founded by prominent MIT professors Robert Langer and Michael Cima to address the challenges of traditional blood glucose testing for patients with diabetes. Their proprietary technology aimed to provide continuous, painless monitoring of glucose levels through advanced sensing mechanisms. In 2016, MetaSensors was acquired by Medtronic to integrate its innovative sensing capabilities into Medtronic's diabetes management portfolio. The acquisition allowed Medtronic to further its goal of creating a closed-loop insulin delivery system, often referred to as an artificial pancreas. Although the company operated primarily in stealth mode prior to its acquisition, its pedigree and focus on non-invasive diagnostics made it a significant addition to the medical device landscape.
