Company intelligence / Profile preview
Metastatin Pharmaceuticals was a Maryland-based biopharmaceutical company specializing in the development of therapeutic agents to control cancer metastasis and angiogenesis. The company's core research focused on the human protein Uteroglobin (UG), which research suggested possessed potent cytostatic, anti-metastatic, and anti-angiogenic activities. Its lead drug candidate, recombinant human Uteroglobin (rUG), was developed as an experimental replacement therapy for various epithelial cell cancers, including prostate, lung, and breast cancers. In July 2006, Metastatin Pharmaceuticals was acquired by Samaritan Pharmaceuticals, which sought to integrate the rUG technology and lead candidate into its own oncology pipeline. Prior to its acquisition, the company was a portfolio company of the Maryland Venture Fund.
