Company intelligence / Profile preview
Metcon Medicin AB was a Swedish biotechnology company focused on developing novel treatments for diabetes and metabolic disorders. Founded in 1999 by Dr. Ulf Smith and Dr. Mats Lake, the company specialized in oral formulations designed to stabilize blood glucose levels and prevent complications such as hypoglycemia. Its lead candidate, MM005 (also known as Gluconoct), was a pharmaceutical-grade starch granulate that reached Phase 2 clinical trials for the prevention of nocturnal hypoglycemia in patients with Type 1 diabetes. The company also developed controlled-release formulations of existing diabetes medications, including gliclazide, using its proprietary granulation technology. Metcon Medicin is currently inactive, and its development programs have been discontinued or abandoned.
