Company intelligence / Profile preview
MetUP (Metastasis-UP) was an Italian biotechnology company focused on developing novel therapeutics to combat cancer metastasis by targeting the MET oncogene. Founded as a spin-off from the University of Turin and the Candiolo Cancer Institute, the company was built on the pioneering research of Professor Paolo Comoglio, a leading expert in MET biology. MetUP's primary asset was a specialized monoclonal antibody designed to inhibit the MET receptor (Hepatocyte Growth Factor Receptor) without triggering the receptor dimerization that often leads to resistance. In 2012, the company was acquired by Symphogen, which integrated MetUP's MET-targeting technology into its antibody mixture platform, eventually leading to the development of the clinical-stage candidate Sym015. The company's work represents a significant contribution to the field of precision oncology and the treatment of MET-driven solid tumors.
