Michigan Biologic Products Institute

The Michigan Biologic Products Institute (MBPI) was a state-owned biopharmaceutical facility based in Lansing, Michigan, specializing in the development and manufacture of vaccines and blood products. Historically operated by the Michigan Department of Public Health, the institute was the sole producer of the Anthrax Vaccine Adsorbed (BioThrax) for the United States government. In 1998, the State of Michigan privatized the institute, selling its assets to BioPort Corporation, which subsequently became Emergent BioSolutions. MBPI's legacy continues through the ongoing production of critical biodefense vaccines at the Lansing site. The facility played a crucial role in national security by providing vaccines to the U.S. Department of Defense.
