MicroProtein Technologies (MPT) was a biotechnology company specializing in the development of a proprietary bacterial expression platform for the production of complex recombinant proteins. The company's core technology, the MicroProtein™ system, utilized engineered E. coli strains to achieve high-yield production of proteins that typically require mammalian cell systems, such as those with intricate disulfide bonding and folding requirements. MPT operated primarily as a technology provider and contract development organization, assisting pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners in optimizing the manufacture of therapeutic proteins and research reagents. The platform was designed to offer a more cost-effective and scalable alternative to traditional cell culture methods. Although the company established significant licensing agreements, notably with Sigma-Aldrich, it is no longer active.
