Microsoft Research is a global research organization focused on advancing computing and AI, with significant investments in applying these technologies to life sciences and healthcare. It does not develop or commercialize drugs itself, but partners with biotech and pharma companies (notably 1910 Genetics) to provide AI-driven platforms that accelerate drug discovery and development. These platforms are used to design, manufacture, and test both small and large molecule drug candidates for a range of diseases. The goal is to reverse decades of declining pharmaceutical R&D productivity by integrating AI, wet lab data, robotics, and HPC.
