Miles

Miles was a prominent American pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare company, originally founded in 1884 as Dr. Miles Medical Company in Elkhart, Indiana. The company became a household name through the development and marketing of iconic over-the-counter brands such as Alka-Seltzer, One-A-Day vitamins, and Flintstones Vitamins. In addition to consumer health, Miles made significant contributions to medical diagnostics through its Ames division and to biological therapeutics via its acquisition of Cutter Laboratories. In 1979, Miles was acquired by the German conglomerate Bayer AG for approximately $253 million. The entity operated as Miles Inc. until 1995, when it was fully rebranded and integrated into Bayer's North American operations.
