Company intelligence / Profile preview
Millennium Pharmaceuticals was a Cambridge, Massachusetts biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing, and commercializing medicines, initially using genomics-based discovery and later concentrating on oncology and inflammation. Its flagship marketed product was VELCADE (bortezomib), a proteasome inhibitor for multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma. The company was publicly traded on Nasdaq under the symbol MLNM before being acquired by Takeda in 2008 for approximately $8.8 billion. After the acquisition, Millennium operated as "Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company" and was subsequently rebranded into Takeda Oncology. As an independent company, Millennium was one of the prominent U.S. biotech firms of the genomics era and built significant pharma partnerships around discovery and product development.
