MiniVax

MiniVax was a biotechnology company dedicated to developing novel vaccines and therapeutics for life-threatening infectious diseases, with a primary focus on fungal pathogens. The company's lead program was a recombinant protein vaccine targeting Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP), a significant cause of mortality in immunocompromised patients such as those with HIV/AIDS or those undergoing organ transplants. The technology was based on the Kex1 protein, a fungal protease identified as a potent immunogen. Spun out from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, MiniVax sought to provide a preventative solution for infections where current antifungal treatments are often inadequate. Although the company made strides in pre-clinical development, it is currently considered inactive.
