Company intelligence / Profile preview
Mirabel Medical was a medical technology company specializing in advanced diagnostic imaging for women's health. Based in Austin, Texas, the company developed the T-Scan 2000, an FDA-cleared adjunct to mammography that used electrical impedance tomography (EIT) to differentiate between malignant and benign breast lesions. The technology aimed to improve the specificity of breast cancer screening and reduce the rate of false-positive biopsies. Mirabel Medical was backed by venture capital firms including Austin Ventures and STARTech Early Ventures. In 2004, the company was acquired by U-Systems, a developer of automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) systems. The technology was eventually integrated into the portfolio of GE Healthcare following its acquisition of U-Systems in 2012.
