MiraKind

MiraKind is a Los Angeles-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on translating inherited genetic biomarker discoveries into cancer risk assessment, prevention, treatment guidance, and patient education. The organization was founded in 2013 by oncologist-scientist Joanne Weidhaas following the discovery of the KRAS-variant, a microRNA-related inherited biomarker associated with cancer risk and treatment response. MiraKind runs patient-centric research and registry studies, educates patients and physicians, and seeks to expand access to clinically meaningful applications of these biomarkers. Its work spans cancer and selected non-oncology conditions linked to microRNA binding site mutations, including endometriosis and infertility. The organization appears to operate more like a translational research and education nonprofit than a traditional therapeutic drug developer.
