Mirexus

Mirexus is a Canadian biotechnology company that has developed a unique, plant-based nanotechnology platform based on PhytoSpherix, a monodisperse phytoglycogen nanoparticle. Extracted from non-GMO sweet corn, these highly branched glucose polymers are non-toxic, biodegradable, and possess exceptional water-retention and film-forming properties. The company targets three primary markets: personal care, where PhytoSpherix is used as a high-performance moisturizing and anti-aging ingredient; nutraceuticals; and biomedical applications, including drug delivery and vaccine adjuvants. In September 2022, Mirexus was acquired by BASF, the world's largest chemical producer, to bolster its portfolio of sustainable and bio-based ingredients for the Care Chemicals division. The acquisition allows for the global scaling of the PhytoSpherix technology across various industrial and healthcare sectors.
