Company intelligence / Profile preview
Mitchell Hutchins was a distinguished American investment banking and asset management firm that played a pivotal role in the early capitalization of the biotechnology industry. Founded in 1919 and later acquired by PaineWebber in 1977, the firm was highly regarded for its institutional research and served as a lead underwriter for several landmark life sciences IPOs during the 1980s and 1990s. Through its asset management division, it operated specialized healthcare and biotechnology investment funds that provided essential growth capital to emerging drug developers. Following the acquisition of PaineWebber by UBS in 2000, the Mitchell Hutchins brand was retired and its operations were fully integrated into UBS Global Asset Management.
