Modus Biological Membranes

Modus Biological Membranes was an Israeli biotechnology company focused on developing phospholipid-based therapies to treat withdrawal symptoms and hormonal imbalances. Founded in 1995, the company developed the Libertal™ platform, which utilized phosphatidic acid-enriched phospholipids to adjust cell membrane fluidity, particularly in the brain. This mechanism was intended to alleviate symptoms of nicotine, drug, and alcohol withdrawal, as well as menopause-related symptoms. The company's lead candidate, Libertal, reached Phase IIb clinical trials for smoking cessation before the company ceased operations in 2013. During its active years, Modus collaborated with institutions like the Kaplan Medical Center and received backing from investors such as Menora Gaon and Argoquest.
