Molecular Medicine BioServices (MMB) was a biopharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) based in Carlsbad, California, specializing in the production of viral vectors for gene therapies and vaccines. Founded in 1997, the company provided comprehensive services including R&D process development, clinical-grade manufacturing, and fill/finish for DNA and RNA-based products. MMB's expertise spanned various therapeutic areas, having produced clinical materials for oncology, neurology, and cardiovascular indications. In May 2007, the company was acquired by Sigma-Aldrich Corporation to enhance the biologics manufacturing capabilities of its SAFC Pharma business segment. The acquisition allowed Sigma-Aldrich to offer specialized viral manufacturing services to the global pharmaceutical industry. Following the acquisition, the Carlsbad site continued to serve as a key facility for viral vector production within the Sigma-Aldrich and later Merck KGaA networks.
