Molteno Ophthalmic is a New Zealand ophthalmic medical device company associated with the development and manufacture of glaucoma drainage devices for severe and complex glaucoma. The business is best known for the Molteno3 glaucoma drainage device, a commercially marketed implant used by eye surgeons to reduce intraocular pressure in difficult glaucoma cases. Originally founded by Professor Anthony Molteno in Dunedin, the company built a long-standing reputation in glaucoma implant technology and related ophthalmic devices. In 2020, Nova Eye Medical acquired the company’s Molteno3 ophthalmic assets and integrated the business into its glaucoma device portfolio, while the Molteno Ophthalmic name continued in connection with the acquired business and product line.
