MonoGen was a medical technology company specializing in liquid-based cytology for cancer screening and diagnostics. The company developed the MonoPrep system, an automated liquid-based Pap testing platform designed to improve the detection of cervical cancer and its precursors. By utilizing a proprietary filtration and cell-transfer process, the system provided high-quality cellular slides for clinical review, aiming to reduce false negatives compared to traditional methods. MonoGen was acquired by Cytyc Corporation in 2004 for approximately $21.7 million. Its technologies were subsequently integrated into the Hologic portfolio following the merger of Cytyc and Hologic.
