Company intelligence / Profile preview
Mountain States Health Alliance was a non-profit integrated healthcare delivery system headquartered in Johnson City, Tennessee. It served a 29-county region encompassing Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Southeast Kentucky, and Northwest North Carolina. The system operated 13 hospitals, including its flagship facility, Johnson City Medical Center, and the Niswonger Children's Hospital. In February 2018, Mountain States Health Alliance merged with Wellmont Health System to form Ballad Health. This merger was authorized under a Certificate of Public Advantage (COPA) in Tennessee and a Cooperative Agreement in Virginia to ensure continued access to care in rural areas. Before the merger, the alliance was one of the largest employers in the region, providing comprehensive medical services ranging from trauma care to specialized cardiovascular surgery.
